Chan Marshall is the definition of a true “indie-rock” rock star, —the mercurial singer-songwriter A.K.A. Cat Power.
Born in Atlanta, Marshall first emerged with her debut album, Dear Sir (1995), during the golden age of the mid- ’90s Alternative Nation. I guess we were all alternative; since life seem to flow as opposed to stop and go and everyone or most every one seem to have a project or something worthwhile to do, and the World seemed to be turning an auspicious corner…then came the rest… Continue reading “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof” »

It is the fashion parade part of the games when athletes from around the World, march down the Stadium field outfitted in their respective country’s uniforms. Most often the uniforms look stiff and the athletes wear them with a certain awkwardness as if they seem to feel highly restricted by anything other than a pair of shorts and a t-shirts. With these words Lady Gaga has launched her new fragrance by Coty called Fame. The launch of a new fragrance by a celebrity isn’t earth shattering news. After all there are more scents backed by celebrities that there are perfumes in any other category. Gaga however has a way of making everything newsworthy in that almost Warhol media like savviness of hers…and with the music business and the way the celebrity of the month carousel spins around, having something to fall back on when the creative juices don’t flow as well as they did…it’s isn’t necessarily an unwise fiscal move. I have always been a fan of Jean Paul Gaultier’s work.
For two very simple reasons. Firstly he doesn’t fail to entertain and amuse and secondly considering all the barriers he has shattered in fashion starting from his global tribal looks in the early 90’s when everyone was still doing talliers and minimalism, to his work for Hermes and the truly adventurous way in which he has taken the concept of androgyny to new levels. He still doesn’t seem to take himself too seriously. Continue reading “Androgyny Couture at Jean Paul Gaultier” »
