Marc Jacobs takes on Dior
Not too shabby for a Jewish kid from Teaneck, New Jersey. Yet it seems like the logical solution to one of the most debated dilemmas in Fashion of the last few months.
Jacobs new post will undoubtedly leave a gap at Louis Vuitton also owned by Bernard Arnault’s mega conglomerate LVMH; where Jacobs has reigned as the Wizard of OZ minus the Agoraphobia since 1997…That in itself was one of those fashion moments that made history…The new Infant Terrible of New York fashion takes on Paris…and LV…We kind of thought at the time that Marc was definitely born with the fashion silver spoon in his mouth…Now after almost 15 years of solid hits Jacobs has reached the pinnacle of Fashion Olympia.
He is indeed a Bankable star…and he’s got the ink to prove it…and with Sponge Bob Square Pants on his left bicep to give him wisdom and strenght, how can he go wrong?…As far as what’s in store for Dior with Marc at the helm…Well, we might see a return to a Dior Maison similar to the one helm-ed by the other Marc, Marc Bohan who was hired to assist Yves Saint Laurent and after Yves sudden departure in 1961 held the reigns of the house as creative director till 1989.
It was Marc Bohan that made the Peter Pan look famous in 1966. His sensibility and approach to elegance; unquestionably French, Chic, Flamboyant and yet understated ruled undisturbed untill the late Gianfranco Ferre’ came on board and ushered the Dior Renaissance of opulence and excess that was perpetuated by Galliano.
With the state of today’s Fashion World it only makes sense that the people at LVMH would be looking at this and seeing in Jacobs the New Peter Pan.
I do think Marc should get a tattoo of Roger the Alien from American Dad on the other bicep…or Patrick.
