Beckham channels Emily the Strange, Smurfette does Harper’s
Emily the strange as Victoria Beckham alter ego? Not so strange if you go back to the Victoria “posh spice” period, some definite kindredness there…no doubt.
Mrs Beckham, in spite of her harshest critics labelling her as an other celebrity arrive’ into the already crowded fashion arena proved her chic credentials were indeed retail worthy when in 2008 she launched her eponymous collection.
This time Victoria’s playing it sweet. She intends to tap into the younger woman’s psyche, with a refreshed line that encapsulates insouciance and a bit of naïve simplicity. She claims her collection’s muse was cartoon character Emily the Strange (love her!).
VB says the line was intended to feature “the perfect little summer dress, something that was fun, something that was girly, something that was easy to wear, and something that would take you from day through the night”. Not only has the sophistication, stuffiness and sensibility of her first line been taken down a few notches for the new designs, the price range will no longer make you want to curl up in a foetal position and bawl.
It seems female cartoons are plotting to give mere humans Kate Moss, Alexa Chung et al a run for their money these days, for it was Smurfette who claimed a good few pages of Harper’s Bazaar this month, strutting her stuff as good as any (what would Papa Smurf say?)
The blue-skinned beauty, who is voiced by Katy Perry
in the upcoming Smurfs movie, shows the supermodels how its don as she strikes a pose in the season’s hottest new accessories by Lanvin, Louis Vuitton and Dolce & Gabbana…Can’t wait for the return of Miss Piggy….
