House Of Lavande: vintage delux

posted by on 2011.05.14, under fashion accesories

If you’ve ever scoured outdoor jewelry markets or attempted to search online for vintage couture jewelry, you know how difficult it can be to weed through the fluff and find something truly unique. Enter jewelry connoisseur, Tracy Smith, who comes to the rescue with her House of Lavande jewelry collections. Smith does the scouring for you and curates an exceptional collection of one-of-a-kind vintage couture jewelry and collectable costume pieces.

House of Lavande by Tracy Smith has fast become the go-to for lust inducing vintage costume jewellery for celebrities and fashionistas alike. Combing flea markets, estate sales and private dealer stocks, Tracy Smith has amassed a treasure trove collection of baubles and gems at her Floridian boutique. Here Tracey shares some thoughts about her collection of one of a kind pieces.

How do you decide which pieces are right to stock at House of Lavande?

I really just buy what I like and what I would wear myself. I never only consider what will “sell” as a factor when I buy. That way, if it doesn’t sell, it is still a part of my private collection.

What was your best find and where did you find it?

A 1960′s Pauline Trigere collar necklace that a private collector had for years….the Trigere tag was still on the piece. The color and construction is something I very rarely see in costume.

How are the pieces preserved?

It’s really about the construction of the piece itself and how well someone takes care of it. It’s just good handling and storing.

Top three tips for matching the right jewellery to your outfit?

Never mix heavy earring with heavy necklace….either statement necklace with bracelets, or heavy earrings with bracelets.

Don’t be afraid to layer, but play with adding, subtracting until it “feels” right

Wear jewellery that is the opposite feel of your outfit, for example if you have conservative or neutral outfit, use bolder more exciting jewellery.

What can we expect to see in the terms of jewellery trends coming up this season?

Big, big, big earrings. I think it was all about the statement necklace and now it is about the earrings.
